Let's see, it's been well over a month since I first proposed this marketing throwdown...and in perfect fashion I think the idea has marinated just enough so that most of you have forgotten completely about it and those that have remembered had hoped I simply gave up on the ridiculous concept. Well think again bitches -- this game is on -- like Voltron!

Promowarfare Challenge #1: The Trailer Recut
You're probably familiar with the trailer recut. If not, then crawl out from under that rock and peruse one of the 18,000 videos on youtube. Here are a few stellar examples...



The Shining as a romantic comedy...


West Side Story as a Zombie film...


Or Top Gun as a gay love story...



Think you can do better? I'm guessing the answer is no, but it will still be fun to watch the sad attempts we all come up with. There are a few rules and a deadline (yeah, I know, here comes Mr. Douchebag), but seriously, who's going to enforce them. Not me! Screw the man, power to the people!

Anyways, I'm started to get bored again so here are those rules.

1. You will be randomly assigned a movie from the list below.

2. All footage in your recut must come from the movie itself. You may not shoot any additional scenes or add extraneous footage. However, you may add your own music, announcer voice track and/or graphics.

3. Everyone will have their own movie, no duplicates will be assigned.

4. Keep your videos between 1:00 - 2:30 minutes.

5. Don't be a tool and make your recut look like the original movie. Like I said, there are thousands of these already on youtube so it will be difficult to come up with something unique. At the same time if you straight up copy one that's been done you will be called on it.

6. Deadline to complete your film is October 29th. When you're finished post it to youtube (or email it to me) and I'll embed all the finished products on this blog. Who knows how voting will work or how the winner will be picked. Doesn't really matter since there are no prizes. Though, I'm pretty sure there will be some kind of sweet trophy.
